As the first light of day touched the sky, my excitement for Darjeeling's clear mornings was palpable. The journey kicked off with a picturesque drive to Sittong, aptly nicknamed the 'Orange Village' because of its vibrant orange orchards. The aroma of citrus rejuvenated me, setting a refreshing tone for the day.
My initial destination was Lepchajagat, a tranquil village enveloped in mist and nestled within lush forests. The silence here was profound, complemented by stunning Himalayan vistas that offered a sense of peace and isolation. Wandering through this village felt like moving across a green landscape brought to life by nature's palette.
A short distance from Lepchajagat brought me to the peaceful Lepcha Monastery in Sittong. This visit was spiritually uplifting, with detailed carvings and monks' chants enhancing the serene atmosphere. Discovering the Lepcha people's culture and their intrinsic bond with nature was captivating.
The day's pinnacle was at the Sittong Cinchona Jungle View Point. The expansive view of the jungle below was mesmerizing. This viewpoint showcased a dramatic panoramic of the verdant terrain against the grandeur of distant mountains.
My last visit was to the Rabindra Bhawan Museum in Mungpoo, dedicated to the esteemed poet Rabindranath Tagore. The museum displayed numerous artifacts and personal items from Tagore, providing a glimpse into the life of this literary icon.
Returning to my lodging filled with wonder and inspired, I was ready to rest and contemplate the magnificent experiences of my first day in Darjeeling. Today's adventures indicated that this trip would be a memorable one.
