An evening to cherish forever !!

Attending the live dance performance of the illustrious Sobhana, a paragon of classical dance and a celebrated leading actress of the 80s and 90s Indian Film Industry, at Nritya Samavesh was nothing short of a spiritual experience. Organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kolkata and the Mehta Foundation at the iconic Rasika Ranjana Sabha Sree Thygaraja Hall Kolkata, the event was a perfect confluence of art, tradition, and divine expression.

Sobhana's graceful movements, blending Bharatanatyam’s timeless elegance with her deep artistic sensibilities, transcended the ordinary and touched the sublime. Every gesture and expression seemed to echo Adi Shankaracharya's profound words,

"Natyam bhavabodham, tatvashodhanam"
(Dance is a reflection of emotions, a path to seek truth).

Sobhana, apart from being a National Award-winning actress for her stellar performances in Indian cinema, is also a disciple of the legendary Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Subrahmanyam. Her dance productions often feature innovative themes, blending mythology with contemporary relevance. Sobhana’s contributions to classical dance and her versatility in the performing arts have earned her the prestigious Padma Shri and global acclaim.

Sharing this soul-stirring evening with Jhimli and Maa made it even more special, as we immersed ourselves in the divinity of art and its power to connect us with something greater than ourselves.
