The "clunk" of metal against ball drew objections from England captain Mike Brearley, and even Australian skipper Greg Chappell stepped in, urging Lillee to switch back to wood.

The heated moment ended with Lillee reluctantly abandoning the bat – but it left its mark on cricket history. Soon after, the ICC ruled that cricket bats must be made of wood.

A quirky chapter in the gentleman's game!
