On 29th July 2025, the first-year B.Optom students of Sankara Nethralaya Elite School of Optometry (SNESO), Kolkata, undertook an insightful hospital department tour at the Rajarhat Campus. Guided by Ms. Mousumi Patro, Assistant Professor, and myself, the students witnessed firsthand the operational synergy that sustains excellence in eye care services. They visited Medical Records, Finance, Administration, Corporate, Mediclaim, Communication & Appointment Sections, HRD, Quality Control, Wards, Operation Theatre (OT), Outpatient Department (OPD), Patient Care, Surgery Fixing, Opticals, Pharmacy, Stores, and Patient Relations. Each department demonstrated its vital role in the smooth, patient-centered functioning of Sankara Nethralaya. அதிக குழப்பங்களில் ஆசைக்கு இடம் கொடுக்காதீர்கள் தவறுகள் புகுந்து விடும்.....!!!!! உண்மைதான். வாழ்க்கையில் நாம் எதிர்கொள்ளும் மிகப் பெரிய சோதனைகள் பலவும் குழப்பத்தின் மையத்தில் உருவாகின்றன. அந்த குழப்பங்கள் நம்மை பாதிப்பதற்குள், நம் உள்ளத்தின் ஆழத்தில் ஒரு ஆசை மெல்லத் தோன்றுகிறது. அது விருப்பமாக இருக்கலாம், வெற்றிக்கான வலியுறுத்தலாக இருக்கலாம், அல்லது ஏதாவது ஒன்றை எப்படியாவது பெற்றே ஆக வேண்டும் என்ற அகந்தையாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் அந்த 'ஏக்கம்' குழப்பத்துடன் சேரும்போது, அறிவின் தெளிவை மூடியிடுகிறது. அப்போது நாம் எடுத்த முடிவுகள் உணர்வுகளால் நிர்ணயிக்கப்படுகின்றன; உண்மையால் அல்ல. மனதில் குழப்பம் இருப்பதற்கே ஒரு காரணம் இருக்கும் – ஒரே நேரத்தில் பல திசைகளில் இழுக்கப்படுவது, பலர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டு ஒரே விஷயத்தில் பல்வேறு பார்வைகள் வருவது, அல்லது நம் ஒளிபாதையை மறைக்கும் நேரச் சுமைகள். இந்தக் குழப்ப நேரங்களில், நாம் ஆசையால் கட்டுப்பட்டுப் போனால், அதற்குள் தவறுகளும் நுழைகின்றன. ஏனெனில் ஆசை வழி எடுத்த முடிவுகள் பெரும்பாலும் நமக்கு வேண்டியது என்ன என்பதையும், நமக்குத் தேவையானது என்ன என்பதையும் ...

A Light Beyond the Horizon In Memory of Dr. P. Namperumalsamy (1945–2025) Today, we mourn the loss of a visionary — Dr. P. Namperumalsamy. A pioneer in retina care and a devoted disciple of Dr. G. Venkataswamy, he helped shape Aravind into a institution of accessible excellence. His quiet strength and enduring mentorship uplifted generations. His bond with Dr. S. S. Badrinath, founder of Sankara Nethralaya, was built on mutual respect — exemplified by his memorable inaugural lecture at Dr. Badrinath Endowment Lecture. Dr. Namperumalsamy also stood with Optometry, promoting unity in eyecare and recognizing the value of every role. His light may have set, but it shines on — in the lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul attain Sadgati. Venkataramanan Ramasethu July 24, 2025

A Red Salute to Comrade VS Achuthanandan (1923–2025) A towering figure in Indian communism, a relentless fighter for the rights of the marginalized, and a symbol of uncompromising integrity, Comrade VS Achuthanandan passed away today at 101. From co-founding CPM in 1964 to leading Kerala as Chief Minister (2006–2011), his journey was marked by courage, conviction, and clarity. "Communism is not a dogma, it is a guide to action." – Lenin "A true communist stands by truth even when truth is inconvenient." – fittingly reflected in Achuthanandan’s life and words. His fearless voice, especially in the face of internal party conflicts, remains a testament to principled politics. இந்த உலகத்தில் நாம் நாள்தோறும் சந்திக்கும் உறவுகள் பலவாக இருக்கலாம் – பெற்றோர், தோழர்கள், ஆசிரியர்கள், பாசத்துடன் இணைந்த குடும்பத்தினர். ஆனால், அந்த உறவுகளின் ஆழம் எதிலிருந்து புரியலாம்? "யாரிடம் யார் வெல்கிறோம் என்பதிலில்லை... யாரால் யார் மகிழ்விக்கப்படுகிறோம் என்பதில் ஒளிந்துள்ளது உறவின் ஆழம்" என்ற இந்த வரிகள், நம் வாழ்க்கையின் மிக முக்கியமான உண்மையை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றன. வெற்றி, சாதனை, பொருள், பதவி, புகழ் இவை அனைத்தும் நம் வாழ்க்கையின் ஒரு பகுதி மட்டுமே. ஆனால், யாராவது ஒருவரின் உள்ளத்தை நம்மால் தொட்டு மகிழ்விக்க முடிகிறதா? அவர்கள் நம்மை நினைத்தவுடனே ஒரு புன்னகை விரிகிறதா? அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் நம்மால் ஓர் அற்புதமான துளி ஒளி படர்ந்ததா? இதுதான் உண்மையான உறவின் பரிமாணம். உறவுகள் என்பது போட்டி அல்ல; அது ஒரு பாச பயணம். அங்கே யார் வெல்லுகிறோம் என்பதை கணிக்க முடியாது; ஆனால் யாரால் யார் மகிழ்கிறோம் என்பதன் தாக்கம் நீடிக்கக்கூடியது. நம்மை சுத்தமாக, எதிர்பார்ப்பு இல்லாமல் நேசிக்கக் கூடியவர்கள் குறைந்து வரும் இந்தக் காலத்தில், ஒருவருக்கொருவர் மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்கக்கூடிய உறவுகள் நம் வாழ்க்க...

Attended the AGM of Rasika Ranjana Sabha Calcutta today, 6th July 2025, at Sree Thyagaraja Hall, Kolkata. Shared beautiful moments with Dr. G. V. Subramanian (President), Sri V. V. Raman (Managing Committee Member), and others, followed by a sumptuous South Indian lunch. Special thanks to Smt. Padma Ray Bardhan (Secretary) for the excellent arrangements and flawless execution.
